June 15, 1942 Dear Dad & Mother: I have had quite a deluge of mail today seven cards and a letter from Rev. Whina. Cards from Dara [Berniss?], J. T. Phillips, [Berna Lauer?}, Mrs. Carroll Grimes, Harry Olson, A P. [Pupps?] & mrs. Bill Frederricks. It seemed good to hear from all these folks I had a card [illegible{ from Mrs. Robt Rogers. We have been drilling pretty regular these days and its been awfully hot. Last Friday it was 110 degrees F in the shade (no shade). But by morning it was cold again. Spent yesterday with the Young two Sundays in a row had another very nice day. It was nice all day and then it rained awfully hard last night washed mud all over the streets and made a quite a mess. We drilled down by the hangar on the huge concrete runway. I was very sorry to hear about Paul Randall. Accidents like that happen anyplace. You'd think at home playing with the kids would be as safe as a fellow could
