August 2, 1942 Wendover, Utah Dear Dick and Jan: I've started to write to you so many times but it seemed something always interfered with my good intentions. In the first place I surely want to thank you for the paper. I've really enjoyed it believe me I read it from cover to cover even the Want ads tho I'm not a prospective buyer of anything for a while. I finished my air mechanics training July 4th and left Sheppard Field the following day. I was stationed at Salt Lake City for a week where I was classified again and then shipped down to Tucsan Arizona. I spent ten days there and was assigned to a bombardment squadron. From there I shipped out here at Wendover Utah where the 356th squadron is being assembled. The camp at Tucsan was a large one about eight miles out of town and located in the heart of the desert. I saw every type of cactus imaginable, they were most all in bloom and really beautiful however if you have to hike thru them you soon forget their beauty because they
