Memphis Saturday, June 11, 1864 In camp 3 miles East of Memphis. rainy last night. drew tents. 44th Regt. assisted Capt [illegible] his muster to co Book some of our boys found ripe cherries. Capt. [illegible] H. Collins [illegible] visited our camp Sunday 12 Our first Inspection took place this 9 o.clock A.M. after which each man in Regt drew 40 rounds of cartridges went to meeting Chaplain of [illegible] preached. wrote letter to Father. we rec'd orders to be ready to march [illegible] Cavalry massed here all day of the [Fridays?] [illegible] Monday 13 we were formed into line of battle at 2 o'clock. [illegible] washed all my under clothes wrote letter to [illegible] Smith of 12th Regt. [illegible] our camp his Regt, being 1 1/2 miles N.E. [illegible]
