At Memphis Thursday, June 23, 1864 Ovid Hare and Jas. Hornbeck arrived here direct from home having left there Monday [illegible] o clock A.M. [illegible] letter from Hannah by [illegible] The 1st Gen'rl review took place this 5 o'clock p.m. orders read on dress parade that the 44th & [8th?] Ia and [4th?] Wis. Regt. are Brigaded in 3rd Div. Friday 24 On picket guard 80 rds. East of camp north E. [Foster?] & two boys of Co. G. Capt Shaw officer of guard very warm lively rain shower of 1 hour Edward went to camp and drew his hard tack I stood guard till noon [illegible] wrote letter to Hannah Saturday 25 discharged from picket 10 oclock A.M. Mailed letter to Father. Our Squad got some [illegible] and brush and made shade to cook under Company drew five days rations groceries [illegible] days in bread and hard tack we had some more potatos
