Sunday, June 26, 1864 At Memphis HeadQuarters 44th Iowa Inft Situated in Camp near Memphis Took a regular bath. Shaved & Company inspection at 9 o clock AM went to church comenced at 10 1/2 o.clock morning read in the northwesters Christan advocate. C R Harmon on picket. Shadbold visited us from a gunboat Monday 27 On Picket guard. guard mounting at 7 o clock AM our Regt. posted [illegible] pickets north of Camp to the Rolla road. our place 1st above the bridge. three boys of Co. [I?] on 1st. post & 2 boys on 2d. post I Stood from 8 o clock till 10 PM Borrowed Book of [Abner?] [Evenans?] Tuesday 28 Relieved from picket guard 9 o clock A.M. John Wheeler arrested for leaving [illegible] yesterday after starting to relieve picket. Capt. took 15 of our Co. [illegible] picket lines for [illegible]
