Oct. 11, 1942 Pueblo, Colarado Dear Dad and Mom: Another nice indian summer day, rather cool but its warming up now, about eleven. I put in a long day yesterday from 12 noon until 2:30 this morning we had a 6:00 hour inspection which calls for a good bit of work on the [illegible] [kinds?] the engine check up. We are hearing a lot of exciting rumors, some of the maintenance men have gotten furloughs and it is understood we will all get them but they are passed out a few at a time. Im going to put in for one as soon as possible so I may be home before so awfully long I'll let you know how things develop, is there any particular time you would rather have me come? Altho I dont expect I could pick a time Our model plane builder whom I have written about lost his plane a few days ago. He set the automatic shut off device for 1 1/2 minutes which is a long flight for one of those little planes. It climbed and climbed almost straight up til it was nearly out of sign then it shut off and started to glide , up currents of air caught it and carried it further and farther away until it vanished The poor guy was really discouraged he had spent weeks building it and it represented about $30 worth of materials. Yesterday an article appeared in the paper saying a ranch [owner?] had found the plane in his road way, the only smooth landing place in acres of rocks, scrub brush, cactus etc. This ranch is more than 12 miles from the spot where the little plane
