Saving...
Dec. 23, 1942 Tucson, Ariz. Dear Dad & Mom: Ive been very lax with my letter writing this past week but the night shift doesnt leave a fellow any time to himself at all. We changed today and I wont work nights again for two weeks, thank heaven I just got a notice to call for a package from West Union so I reckon its your cookies. We have all been faring well from home, cookies, candy fruit cakes etc. I think lots of folks went without sugar to make them possible. I got a nice box of fruit candy from the Carpenters, must write them at once. I've got a slug of Christmas cards, many from folks I didnt send any. Ill tell you how many after Christmas. The squadron has a Christmas tree, it surely does look out of place down here among the cactus, but its kind of nice at that Every man was given a carton of cigarettes from money out of the squadron fund. It's the first carton I ever got for Christmas but I split it up and gave it to some of my buddies. It just doesnt seem like Christmas no snow and warm weather but I guess Im lucky as it is surely cold at home. I guess this is the first Christmas I ever spent away from home maybe that's why I havent the spirit. Hope Bob can make it home
