Saving...
Dec. 28, 1842. Tuscon, Ariz. Dear Dad + Mom: Well I missed another day didnt I? I got your letter with the papers to have notarized this evening and will do so as quick as possible. I have inquired around a bit and they think down at the orderly room there is someone over at the base [illegible] can do it for me. I never thought of it or we could have had it done before I left home. It certainly give me pleasure and no end of surprises that you got a good picture of me way I [illegible] down and had it taken left and order for it to be colored + shipped to you without ever seeing a proof was surely a gamble but I guess we unlucky folks had luck that time. Got a nice letter from Uncle Raymond also today. It certainly takes mail a long time to reach here from home, train connections are very [bad?] O me fellow from (I cant think of the town in Iowa it's close to where Mrs Bills lives + one time we were going to Aunt Cara's on #18 + they had had an air meet the day before + Russ or Jimmie had been down to it) got a furlough from here and only got three days at home. It is too long a trip + too expensive for such a short time. They gave out some more furloughs today, fellows who came in the first of last year but it's still a long way down the list to my name so many came in shortly after the first.
