April 7, 1943 Pocatello, Idaho Dear Dad & Mom: Will write a note at least this morning as there isn't much to do. Went out on the line but the tools aren't unpacked and so there is no work. Don't know when we'll get gas in so we can't fly. I'm going to work a day or two on the carpenter gang I guess to help and getting things straightened around. This morning it was bright and clear a little nippy but gosh that air smells good. We are at around 4500 ft elevation here and I like that. Haven't seen a [illegible] and the hills are getting a touch of green to them. The walkways are gravelled and the areas in between are dirt which needs a bit of smoothing down. They had a dance in our rec hall last night and everyone seemed to have a grand time that went. I didn't know it until evening or I might have gone. I was tired tho. Had to stand plane guard the night before. The town seems friendly so the fellows seem to think. Hope they behave themselves so it stays that way. The barracks which I moved into already had footlockers in it so I wouldn't have needed mine but I'm using it as there weren't quite enough to go around. I have a good spring bed but some fellows got those old folding canvas cots.
