Edited by Parker Spall Dec. 25th 18 My Dearest Bess: Well this is about the longest Christmas day I have ever put in but I am living in hope that by the next Christmas I will be home and with you. The Red Cross had a Christmas tree for the men & a dance last night but I did not stay long. [A?] I arose this morning and shaved and then played cards until noon. We had a pretty good Turkey dinner but it was not cooked as well as we have there. Also mashed potatoes, peas & pie. The Red Cross also sent us a piece of fruit cake but that was poor compared to the one your mother sends...
