Saving...
Wed. 5. We had a spelling school tonight, my school did pretty well not as well though as I desire it to do. This is the only thing of enjoyment which is going on in this neighborhood this winter, so I encourage these schools rather on that account. The young folks want a little fun. Thurs. 6. Attended the Spelling school at the Stone School-house, I did some pretty good spelling. I did not feel very well owing to a bad cold which I have. Had an excellent sleighride, caught a prairie chicken, which probably struck the telegraph wire. The sleighing is excellent this winter. Fri. 7. Our exercises came off pretty well today although we had but two visiters present. The indication of the weather is for more snow. Sat. 8 I went to town this morning, where our teachers' Association met, we had an interesting time. We had a number of young ladies to visit Ady's in the evening with whom I enjoyed myself excellently. Goodnews have reached us from the South our forces have taken Fort Henry in Tennessee. Sun. 9. I did not feel very well to day owing to several unfortunate events. I read the papers nearly all day nothing of great importance, our forces are getting the advantage.
