Saving...
Tues. 29. I was agreeably surprised at seeing my old school-mate Webb from Tipton in town, he intends to go to Dixie to join the Iowa 5th in which he has a brother. He called many of our gay college scenes to my memory, he and I were rivals for the affection of a gay young lady once, I carried off the plan of victory in the contest. And finally beat myself. May success attend him wherever he goes. Wed. 30. Well this is the last day of the month, I am glad of it since, this closes my journal up nicely again, I neglected to post it for the last three weeks, and it was hard work to record from memory all that happened in that time. Mr. Mikesell a young hero who died on the field of battle of at Pittsburg Landing, was escorted to his last resting place with military honors, I had the honor to be one of the pall bearers. It was was quite an imposing procession. Rev. Evans made some very appropriate remarks at the grave, after which the military fired thrice over the grave of the departed hero and moved off to town. I received a letter from Emilie Ady. Another Soldier dies of his wounds to day by the name of Evans, a resident of our neighboring City West Liberty. He was taken thither today. Thus one after another of our brave boys, are departing this life.
