Tues. 10. Still the teachers are coming in. We had a very interesting time today. Hugh J. Campbell lectured before the Institute this evening his lecture did not amount to much, because he had not studied his subject, it being principally extempore. Dr.[Goodno?], [Father] Mc Campbell and I visited the Catholic festival, where we had some strawberries and ice cream, it was not well attended Wed. 11.Some Teachers are dissatisfied with mental arith. and grammar, my branches: Penmanship and Elocution seem to give entire satisfaction. Some of the ladies and gentlemen went out to Foster's nursery, where we had an excellent time. We also visited the Catholic church, where the priest granted us uncommon privileges, permitting us to enter the sanctum sanctorum. Thurs. 12. The interest in our exercises seem to be on the increase, we are having a pleasant time. This evening Judge Thayer gave us an address on "Genisus" at the Presbyterian Church, it was an admirable one, we intend to have it published. I am extending my acquaintance. Fri. 13. Today was uncommonly interesting, Thomas H. Benton jr, visited us and gave us a few practical hints. The directors convention was a success. Mr. Adams delivered a very instructive and spicy lecture at the M.E church, after which we marched to Dr. [Goodno's] where we had a fine Ice cream strawberry party.
