Thurs. 28. A good many companies are daily arriving for the temperance regiment. Three companies of our regiment went into camp today. I am while gaining in popularity with every body, I hope it sustain my reputation everywhere. Put my men through drill. I am glad my journal is posted again it had been neglected for two or three weeks. Fri. 29. Drilled my men this a.m. In the afternoon. I took a ride to the camp found everything pretty conformably arranged. I told my men to be ready to go into camp Monday morning, and to be prepared to take a blanket along. Visited the soldier's and society's festival. My 2d Lt. went to Davenport. Sat. 30. Met my old friend Prof. Dillmann formally my instructor in Western College. He is 2d Lt. in the Toledo Marengo Company, he was glad to see me. I passed a pleasant day with him. Settled up with Mr. Ady. Was pretty busy all day. Sun. 31. Attended church today at Rev. Overmann's?. Went to church in the evening at the Presbyterian. Had a good time at Barrow’s. Arranged matters to leave tomorrow. September 1. Monday.
