Saving...
Sat. 6. Went to town this afternoon after dress parade, did considerable running about. Had a vast amount of business to transact. Stayed all night at Jellison’s. Hubert Allar a man of my Comp. drowned himself. Sun. 7. I had the pleasure of being officer of the day. Signed more than 500 passes was crowded with business at every moment hundreds of visitors crowded the camp, my quarters were thronged with ladies and gentlemen, who seemed to enjoy their visit very much. Had sport with the guard tonight. Mon. 8. To day I did not do much duty because I felt very tired, the weather is pretty warm. We are promised our pay soon, every one is glad of it since we all need money. Tues. 9. This morning a few of my men complained of being unwell, one Henry Rickenberg seems taken very seriously with the cholera morbus. Hundreds of people visit us daily, our camp is very lively. We had officer’s drill this A.M. Wed. 10. I am paying considerable attention to the drill of my company, and I find that they are making considerable proficiency. I can say for my company that it is one of the best in camp, and the field officer appreciated our qualities, by doing us the honor of making us company C.
