Saving...
Tues. 21. This morning before I got out of bed, the adjutant informed me, that I was officer of the day. I made haste to get my breakfast and hurried to my post just in time to receive the salute from the adjutant. All right, guard was mounted and I went to work to have things arranged. This evening Capt. Flanagan, Lts. Kranz & Spencer and myself had a very pleasant time. Made the grand rounds while some of the Gray Beards were on duty, who were very much scared. This reg. is filling up rapidly. Wed. 22. We had battalion drill today, it was conducted in good style and with entire satisfaction by the Lt. Col. J.H. Rothrock who is bound to make a splendid officer, he is a favorite with the men. Lt. Mayer returned today. Thurs. 23. Col. Hill returned from Davenport, having made arrangements for our clothing and arms, we received our blankets tonight. They are pretty good but single. The rest will be on in a few days, our arms will be Austrian Rifles. Fri. 24. The difficulty between Lt. Mayer and myself was amicably settled, he promised to do better in the future. This is a very rough day, it froze ice 1/16 of an in. thick. We distributed our pants, they are pretty good.
