Saving...
Sat. 25. Our arms arrived today, they are very short and do not make a very favorable impression on me. The boys are glad they received them however. They feel more like soldiers. Sun. 26. Staid in camp until after dress parade when, I left in company with Mr. Walton and spent the evening in Miss Barrows company. I also made preparations to go home tomorrow. Mon. 27 At ½ past 8 o’clock this morning, I found myself on board the train, bound for Marengo, arrived there in good season without meeting with any incident worthy of note. Stopped at the Iowa House, got my dinner, and engaged a team to take my trunks to Bishop’s where, I was heartily welcomed, walked home, this evening, where they did not expect me but were very glad to see me, the family is all well. Tues. 28. I did some visiting today. The neighbors were glad to see me, and expressed much joy upon my good fortune. Some came to see me in the evening, we talked over “auld lang syne”, till late in the night, when we separated with many wishes from them for my safe return, and future welbeing. Of course it makes me feel all right to know they wish me well.
