Saving...
Mon. 3. Stopped at Bishop’s where we took dinner, and [?] our journey towards Marengo, where we took the train for Muscatine. Arrived at Wilton surrounded by good company; the train from Muscatine was delayed however, and supposing that it would not come, we started off, for Schafnit’s where we staid all night, we were well received & talked late. Tues. 4. Early this morning Fred. Schafnit took us to town, and thence to camp; the boys were very glad to see me, and rejoice that I had brought my brother with me. Our regiment, has nearly its entire outfit, it looks well in uniform. I had my brother enlisted in my Comp. Wed. 5. Last evening I took the cars for Davenport where, I arrived in good season, and stopped at the Burtis House. Met Lt. Hawley here, who assisted me, in making out my bills. I went with the intention of drawing the subsistence money for those men who boarded themselves. I also met my old comrade Capt. Secrest. Thurs. 6. After considerable running, and labor I managed to present my bills to Captain Hendershott who is of a very surly disposition he hardly deigns to look at a captain of volunteers. Well finally I succeeded, to draw up the bills in the right style and they passed with a few exceptions. I am ready to go home.
