Saving...
Thurs. 9. I commenced paying my debts, which I must say amount to about $250. Had my measure taken for a jacket. The talk is now that the 14 Iowa will be down here in a few days to relieve us. I bought me a pair of gaiters, costing $5.50. I took my men out this morning to practice target shooting. Fri. 10. This is a dreadful stormy day. Saw my old friend and schoolmate Lt. E. B. Soper, also my old comrade in arms major Stibbs. Staid up nearly all night, preparing to leave this place. The above men belong to the 8. Iowa which passed down to Vicksburg tonight. Sat. 11. I am on duty to day. Had a grand lunch this morning. Received marching orders, this afternoon for Vicksburg. We will be relieved by the 14. Iowa, which arrived tonight. Sent my trunk containing $370.00 by lt. C. Kranz. Staid up late tonight.
