Saving...
Sat. 25 The two other Companies arrived here from island No 10. It is now stated that we shall leave within a few days. Four of my men returned to the Company from a furlough and report the feeling of the people at home as strongly in favor of the administration. Glad to hear it indeed. Sun. 26. We commenced packing up this A. M. reduced our bagage to almost nothing. We intend to march from here tomorrow morning. General Tuttle gave my Company a compliment today for it cleanliness. I must leave about 5 men here who are sick. There is a great amount of fatigue work to be done on the canal by our men, who are working day and night to conduct flats through it. Mon. 27. Everything was packed, and the men were ready to march when the order to march was countermanded. It rained heavily in the evening.
