Jan 31, 1942 Tucson, Ariz Dear Dad & Mom: Well we're happy, the payroll was paid on schedule and the orderly room saw to it I was signed for when home so I got paid along with the bunch. $117 less my deductions certainly looked good to me and I'll ship home a money order directly. Dont know just how long this flying time (1/2 base pay) will last but while it does Im going to take it. Just talked to a guy from Washington Iowa I asked him if he knew E. A. Ralston he did and asked if I knew that [descriptor "smugly"? snaupy?] kid of his. I dont think he cared too much for the family from his talk. I'm just about getting into the swing of things again and back to work. After being in almost a year you cant guess how much good that furlough did me. It was hard to get used to the G.I. bed again and eating out of a mess kit and a dozen other little things but the more I think about it I'm lucky to be here for the warm days certainly make working on the planes more pleasant If we just go back up north again in the spring it is rumored strongly we may go to Idaho when it warms up but thats nothing to bank on.
