March 20, 1943 Tucson, Arizona Dear Dad & Mom: Im writing this out in the tent as I am going to work tonight. It is a beautiful evening. warm and the soon and stars are bright, it will soon be cold tho for thats the way this desert country is. I can look off across the desert and see the mountains miles away. Got the old ship back from the hangar from being painted and it looks nice. Almost like new, it's funny we call it an old ship but it is only just turned a year old. If a fellow had a car that new he would feel pretty good wouldnt he. Ate Lizzies box of candy that came in this afternoons mail and it was certainly good. Each piece individually wrapped, fudge with cocoanut in it and [illegible] with raisins and butternuts in it. Will write her tonight and thank her for remembering me. Had a letter from you this morning with the clippings about the Hawkeye fire and the windstorms in it. Poor Hawkeye just about got finished didnt it dont presume it will
