May 13, 1943 Pocatello, Idaho Dear Dad + Mom: This has been the most spring like day we have had for a couple of weeks. Was warm enough this afternoon to go without a jacket and that has been unusual of late. If I was superstitious I'd say this thirteenth was jinxed even if it wasnt Friday, had to change two starters, starter solenoid had a broken stud bolt in a [rocker?] box cover, two more wheel shimmy dampeners, replaced two oil screens repaired the auxillary power unit and several other things. My face and lips are really chapped from the winds weve been having. All the fellows here have chapped lips whenever you grin they split open so we are a sour bunch. Got a letter from Adeline today, Red got his call the day after Easter, had eight days at home and then was inducted at Fort Leavenworth. He still doesnt know where he will get his basic training. He doesnt seem to want to take officers training but I expect with his military training he will end up there. Red thinks he wants to study law when he gets back home, hope it doesnt take so long that he will change his mind before he gets back. She said they may be up Memorial day as King is to give the address thinks he will get gas to make the trip for that reason.
