30 have all the picket duty to do, on account of sending so many troops out on the late expedition Jackson-way received pay up to Jan. 1st/64 the 3d. sent 30,00 dollars home to wife by express with Capt Bushes package also 30,00 to Mrs. Emily Wakefield, from A. Wakefield same way, wrote a letter to Uncle Ralph 4th on picket, on the Jackson Road busy time during the day on account of so many passing, quiet at night, countersign was Hungary, parole was Kossuth, Reports from the front that the fighting had commenced near Black River, also reported by deserters, that the rebs had fifty thousand men between here & Jackson, also reported that the 11th Ill had been engaged on Yazo River & lost some men were relieved at 9 1/2 o clock Am the 5th about 2 1/2 miles from camp
