121 We once saw a young man bravely turning up his glass; he was a true hearted generous glorious fellow, & was, he said, sowing his wild oats. we afterwards saw policeman hauling a miserable drunkard from the gutter to the station house, the wild oats were being harvested. Cant prases Low ideas are always attached to cant prases, which must inevitably exercise a degrading influence on the mind. those who would be refined, would do well to remember that in all works of fiction of worth, it is the coarse & vulgar, who are made to appear to use coarse & improper phrases. the good learned & polished are made to employ chaste simple
