130 The surest method against scandal is to live it down by perseverance, in well doing, & by prayer to God that he will cure the distempered mind of those who speak evil of, & injure us. Pitch in musis, depends upon the No' of vibrations in a given time, take a string that gives a tone, & divide it in two equal parts, each part will vibrate in one half the time of the whole, & give a tone, just an octave higher, than the whole. Temperament is a peculiar condition of the system, Laziness begins in cobwebs & ends in chains, it creps over a man so slowly & imperceptibly, that he is bound tight before he knows it, Mean souls like mean pictures are often found in good looking frames.
