ARMY AIR BASE POCATELLO, IDAHO Oct. 16, 1943 Pocatello, Idaho Dear Dad, Mom & Grandma: This has been a nice fall day clear & sunshiny but cold. Froze pretty [illegible] again last night, real nights to sleep but tough to get up in the morning. It isnt going to be long before we feel winter the hills near camp already have some snow on them. My ship hasnt returned from the west coast yet but rumor has it the Lt. Col., 2 majors & a few captains & [illegible] who flew it away are duck hunting out there. Woudnt be surprised if that is about right this of course I dont know. I am playing right guard on the football team which is what I used to play altho sometimes I played tackle. I have lost some weight already, never used to but Im heavier now than then & fatter. Had a write up in the Salt Lake paper today, dont have one around or would send you a clipping, the guy who handed in the [illegible] on the ball players kind of heaped it on heavy. Made most of us sound like professionals, which we are not
