ARMY AIR BASE POCATELLO, IDAHO Oct. 17, 1943 Pocatello, Idaho Dear Dad, Mom & Grandma: We played our first game of football today and Im still able to write didnt get hurt any, have a few bruised spots but nothing that a few days wont remedy. Got beat darn it 13 - 12 but everyone said it was a good game. They got a good break interrupted one of our passes and ran it back for a touchdown. One of the players from the Navy Mc Donnell, came over to me after the game and asked if I didnt used to play for Upper [Darma?]. He is from [illegible], a good player too. We had a little visit seemed good to see someone from Fayette County. It was a grand football day not to hot or cold and little wind. Think I lost some weight tho I played the whole sixty minutes and they were long ones. My ship is tempararally grounded for a transmitter which we cant get for a short time. Dont have crews now so it doesnt matter much, makes less work too
