we had a plenty to eat of everything until we stoped we are in line of battle 3 miles from Savanah G.A. & the Johnnies keep shelling us but do [obscured] there has [Obscured] our aregt [Obscured] to write I was [Obscured] before last & last ni [Obscured] [illegible] building a fort for Knapps Battery I had a carbuncle on the back of my neck & had my knapsack carried 3 days our boys took fort Mekelster Garrison & all Jefferson Witt got so lousey & lazay that we turned him out of our mess & he sleeps on the ground every night I will send you 2 dollars to get your & little Marys photograph taken to send to me
