Saving...
I took off for [Fort?] Benning having been assigned to an A.S.T.P. unit for basic training. ASTP stands for Army Specialized Training Program. I had 13 weeks of infantry basic plus some extra weeks of training before and after our regular cycle. The day before I finished my basic word came over the radio that ASTP was being closed down except for a few advanced students already in school, so I never quite got to college. Around March 15, I arrived here in Camp Livingston, having been assigned to a regular Infantry outfit. The 86th Division. Guess I'm getting combat training now, and before too long I may be in the big show. Well thanks again for sending me the "Scuttlebut," and I'll try to see that you always have my correct address. Sincerely yours, Pvt. Robert J. Nicola
