June 31, 1944 some where in France Hi Dave, Well I'm now in the combat areas of France And gay it was for it's sure awful now. But when going through a small town the people come out and greet the yanks with quart bottles of eider and "cognac" by te time some of the boys reach the other end of town they have a quart and rifle ready for what may come along. I ran into Tommy Randall on the Boat coming to England and was I glad to see him. We were together til we were assigned to the Co.'s. He is in Co I. This outfit I'm with has been given several awards and you can really why they hit and hit hard. Dave will you please start the Journal coming again. I'll have my aunt come in and pay for it for 3 months. So please start it. Since I left the states I haven't heard from anyone. For I've moved around to much. The last letter was 5 of April. Will stop now and heat my "C" rations for chow. As ever - [D. Antes?]
