Saving...
[July 26, 1944] Wednesday. Dear Dave: Just another line to tell you that the Scuttlebutt is coming through on schedule and I certainly enjoy it. Did my mouth water when i read about the Club traveling to Kingsbury for fish and what goes with Kingsbury. Also glad that your [drouth?] had been booked by the 1:35 [illegible] rain. Iowa had better come through with a good crop because [illegible] is going to need some feed. 38 days here and not even a heavy due. Dust in the red [sand?] is now hip deep. Also the heat is soaring up to 105º every day. This dust had some ill effect on me. I had a bad case of infection in my sinus and they sent me to hospital. This is my fourth week here and I leave tomorrow morning. Had a wonderful doctor treating me and he [illegible] me in good shape again. I had always heard that Army doctors were rough on you but I have not found this true. Bot the doctor and Dentist were tops for my [money?]. They are working most of the Doctors very hard down here at the hospital in full most of the time. We also have a swell bunch of nurses. The Red Cross is doing a fine job providing entertainment movies, books and music for the patients. The Medical Corp is a swell outfit. I will have to change companies when I got back but I will only have to move about a block. I am about ready to start to Clerk's school since I have most of my basics out of the way. Sure am looking forward to that first furlough.
