May 17, 1944 Dear Dave & Y's Club Thank you all for sending me all of the home town scuttlebutt. Time out, but I just dropped my pen on the deck and fixed it up with a pair of pliers. I do believe it writes better than before. Ha! I'm having a little trouble concentrating because one fellow is sitting in the corner playing a guitar very tunefully and I'm always stopping to help sing different tunes. Ha! I'll bet Max Cuddy, sure accepted his leave very gratefully. It's a pity I didn't know where he was on several occasions because I could have got to see him. He has had a lot of rare experiences. Well, Bob I'm glad that you held up the honor of the Club at Muscatine, also thank you Bob for the notation on top of the one you addressed me. If Gene was razzing the home tome town he should have some of the fellow pilots I mean, out here teach
