Oct the 28 1861 Dear father and mother i take my pen in hand to let you know that i am well at present i have just had the measles and got over them i never lost a meals victuals while i had them i took them the day before we left camp Syracuse i marched along and carried my knapsack haversack canteen and gun which is very heavy but i would not stay at the hospital so i started and i was broke out as red as a beet but i never took a dose of medicine and was not sick at all but harmon was pretty sick with them what made him worse he got home sick we left [ken parker?] at the hospital in Syracuse he was well but not able to travel I will now tell you where we are we are 10 miles from Warsaw on the road leading to griney
