Coontown Jan the 25 1863 I take the [present opportunity] of writing a few lines to all of you and then maybe I will get some letters from some of you a little oftener than I do We are all well at this time and I hope these will find you all the same I read a letter some time ago from Amy that stated that you was only in tolerable health but I hope by the time that I get the next you will be able to say that you are all well I have not much to write times are hard here and getting worse all the time I can hardly get enough money to pay postage but I am now chopping wood for the cash and when I get it I will try and write oftener I get but 50 cts per cord for chopping Well I heard that the boys was on their way back home and if they have got back I want them to come over some of these morning and see a feller for I would like to see them the best in the world and I would like to talk with them about a week and [ t?rn] Some of their hardships and I would like to see Will Robuck first though tell him to write to me for I think as much of him as if he was my brother tell him to write We have had a very open winter with hardly any rain or snow until the last few weeks and then we have had rain and snow and now the mud is a
