Philippine Islands Mar 11 - 45 Dear Friends, Must offer an apology for not writing and thanking you for the Scuttlebutt sooner - but as many do, try to use the excuse;- Don't have time! I want you to know that I look forward to receiving it-- In view of the fact I have changed Branches of the service - I have fully lost contact with most of my friends in the Troop and was very surprised to learn that many of the Boys are here in this Theater - Having been in [cut out by censor] for a few days - wish now I had known the addresses of Max Hawkins and Walter McFarland - surely would have seemed like old times to have met the Boys - Would like very much to have the unit and APO numbers of the boys in the SWPA. Perhaps I could arrange to pay them a visit-- Upon my arrival overseas I was stationed in New Guinea for 2 months and then started moving North--I have seen Manila several times - was very fortunate in being on the mission over Corregidor - our mission here are pretty short - but a lot of fun - I can say that I like combat - At the present have about 20 missions and expect to have a hundred before returning to the States-- Our food is very good - a slight shortage of ciggarettes - have been receiving about 10 packages a month - 6 bottles of beer the last two months - We have erected a nice Officers Club and are able to get nurses for the dances which are held every Wed. & Sat nite - Have met some very nice girls from Iowa - of all places--
