[letterhead: American Red Cross] the latest rumor has it that SNAFU Anderson is up for P.F.C., but please don't spread the rumor, for it isn't authorized as yet-- Hate to see the war casulties come in, for its hard to take. Before the war I had never seen any of this, especially on the medical side, but things are flying hot and heavy, & with the good support of those at home, we're going to have an early finish--I HOPE! My nerves are shot, trying to jot down these few lines and trying to keep a sober face at the same time. Tell the Journal force Hello for me, sil vous plait, and keep up the good work! Cordially yours, [in different handwriting than letter: [Pvt.] ] Harry Anderson P.S. Latest Riddle.-- If four and four are eight, what are a bunch of nines? Ha! O.K. but over here it sounds good! [printed on stationery: Form 539 A]
