The town contains about twenty stores and two hotels, all of which are vacated, some contain goods, which, I understand are appropriated by the soldiers under Col. Smith's command when needed. This camp is about six miles from Col. Smith's rendezvous. The bridge here has been burned which obstructs the passage of the cars. Workmen are now engaged rebuilding it, and intend raising it this afternoon. We will leave here probably to-morrow - some say for St. Joe, others say it is the intention of the Col. to take us to Alton, Ill., and go into Camp, as there is no chance for a fight. It is my opinion there will be no fighting this side of St. Louis. at all. There are enough Federal troops in this state to
