before many weeks. It would not suprise me. the next news you here that Vicksburg is ours. And then the Mississippi River is opened. It looks very much to me as though the Rebels was in a very tight place Well Pa you may hear of good news by the time this reaches you. The 4th Cavalry came through with us. they are now crossing the river When I wrote to Mary I told her I would see George. But did not as I was told, he was left at Helena, as he was detailed as Carpenter. I would like to see him very much. But I am glad he is not along, as he cannot stand it to ride. I have not much time to write and I wish it to go in the After noon mail, and to do this I will have but little time to write. I will just tell you my health is good. I have
