Saturday, Oct 16 [1943] Dear Mother, The package arrived & we have enjoyed the cup cakes very much. I'm glad you do want me to go overseas, as that is probably where I'll end up. It is just a question of what part of the country I have my hospital experience in, in case they decide that it would be of value to me. The hospitals here in the East are fully staffed, so it might be mid-west or far west. One man is being sent to Madison. Wis, from here for two weeks experience! I guess I didn't tell you, but it is considered a great honor to be allowed to take this Basic Recreation course. It is given to a picked group (in this case about 50) who "are deemed to have appropriate personal qualifications, experience with people and susceptibility to training in recreational organization & leadership." While we are in the course we are technically "unclassified", at the end (3 weeks from now) our work (and I do mean work) is evaluated by the staff and we are advised as
