Wednesday
Dear Mother,
I am enjoying my work here at Lovell (V, not W) General very much. I also was pleased to get your letter today, and quite surprised, too, as I didn't think you'd gotten my card yet.
We arrived yesterday morning in a snowstorm and had quite a gay time before we got to the hospital by cab. We had missed buses gone to wrong gates, etc. We didn't mind, though, as everyone was jolly. We have to have passes, as it is a strict military reservation. The camp, General Hospital & Station Hospital are all in it. I don't think I'd better tell you the town it is near, but it is about an hour's ride from Boston. The Red Cross building was full, so Mary Bess & I are living in a quaint New England house about 15 minutes walk from the hospital.
In spite of all they had said, I was surprised to see a one-story, barracks type of hospital. There are miles of ramps and corridors, it seems. We eat in the nurses & officers mess & the food is excellent. When we got here we visited a bit and then went out on the wards with a recreation worker to do crafts. We worked in two T.B.
