Saving...
plenty to eat and don't have to go on any annoying details such as latrine orderly or guard duty. I also have an old German cot to sleep on so I've been fortunate for the time being, only wish it were permanent. Last Friday, I went to [Vievierres?] where I found out what inflation is really like after three purchases I was broke and if it hadn't been for the cigarettes, which I sold for 25 Franks or around 50 cents I'd still be broke. One could get 50 F for a package in France & a little fortune for a bar of soap. I sold a bar for 20F or 40 cents the other nite. They give out a package of cigarettes five out of seven days so you see they aren't very plentiful. Mention of the fellows returning home doesn't boost my morale very much. I'm thankful for them but at this time of year I'd give a great deal to be back with my family. However I know that you fellows in Y's men club will carry on as usual with "Goodfellows" the dance and especially the Christmas party with Ted Brown as master of ceremonies. I surely hope that my wife and daughters will be able to attend because it has come to mean a great deal to us. We have a nice service club & I'm keeping upon my ping pong so that I can give Mike Logan a lesson some Tues nite at six o'clock. Well, so long Dave, take good care of Milo's chickens. Yours Sincerely, Boyd [Pvt. B.E.White]
