Saving...
Jan 18, 1945 Somewhere in France Dear Dave: First of all I must tell you I meant to pay my bet off to you long ago but postal facilities and money orders are not easy to obtain so I've written Alice to send you the $250 that I lost to you last Oct. Stationary is also an item which is hard to keep in the proper shape for use as you can see from this which I've carried in my pocket since last October a Xmas gift from the church for which I'm dully appreciative. Spent Thanksgiving on the boat and Xmas on the train an open air French job with a box of K rations for dinner and a bottle of cider purchased from a Frenchman for a couple of packs of ciggarettes which had been sent to me. Am begining to get caught up on your Scuttlebutts. Last one dated in late Dec. Our mail got mixed up and sent to the wrong destination and is just now getting straightened out. Noted your article on the Sixth Bond and the item about the farmers not subscribing very heavy. Hope it goes better as it progresses. You might be interested in farming conditions in this area.
