Saving...
hit by shell fire and partially destroyed. Seldom see a horse or cow have seen a few chickens and dogs a few kids and very seldom any women. They work with hand tools, wheelbarrows, wear wooden shoes and few clothes. Think they must exist on the apples they make cider and [Calvodos?] they sell the G.I.s. Now the GIs are forbidden to buy the stuff so guess the french will have to drink it or throw it away. Still they seem quite happy to have GIs on their land and raising hell with it. Haven't been here too long and I wonder how some of the boys have stood it for two years or nearly that. Guess you can get used to a lot of inconveniences if you want too. Today is supposed to be ration day which is a bright spot. Means cigarrettes and candy to the men. Some will get soap shaving cream and razor blades if they go around. Well Dave must tell you I enjoyed the egg deal you had with Sorden. Give Bill and the boys my regards and say hello to Mr Shannon for me. My A.P.O. is 454
