Saving...
Feb. 19, 1944 Saturday Dear Mother, I'm trying to write this while my roommates, including the head nurse who lives next door, discuss poetry. The results may be confusing. I love the nurses and we have been welcomed with open arms. It is a nice, warm feeling and I'm sure we can work together effectively. I'm also better acquainted with the other Red Cross girls by now and think, just as I did at first, that I couldn't be luckier. I've never seen such a generous lot, to get back to the nurses, and I'm overwhelmed with all sorts of gifts. The latest acquisition was a box of poker chips. Two of my nurse roommates are Iowans and the other is a New Yorker. I'm allowed to tell you that I am somewhere on the East Coast. Yesterday I had a few minutes to write letters to Juliette & Fran Ewinger. I think I told you that I had heard from them. Fran is in El Paso and Juliette in Kansas. Both seem to like the setup a lot. Not much I can tell you, but lots to store up for future conversations. Love, Helen
