March 1, 1944 Dear Mother, No letter for several days, but I will drop a line or so anyway. I'll probably get several in a bunch, as I did the last time. I had an enthusiastic note yesterday from Katharine Hosch. She is in Miami Beach, with the prize assignment of the domestic ones. There are only two spots in the country where Red Cross furnishes recreation for the able-bodied. They are the army air force corps at Miami Beach and in Atlantic City. Needless to say the girls enjoy the beach parties, tours and water sports a lot. I'm glad she got such an enjoyable job. We've been playing Fan-Tan and Cassino lately and, lacking chips, have been using pennies. I think I'm a little ahead. It's as much fun as living in a sorority house with no classes. Sometimes we just sit and laugh like fools because so many funny things happen. My roommates like to sleep just as well as I do and we haven't been in the room five minutes before we are automatically horizontal
