March 3, 1944 Dear Mother, I had a nice letter from Juliette today enclosing some pictures and knew you'd be anxious to see them. Juliette is the tall, dark girl and Lucy Powers is the short, light one. I am very fond of them both and hope I'll see them again. Yesterday I heard from Clara and from Roberta. Did I tell you Roberta sent me a nice hankie for my birthday, and I got it just a month too early. She says she wishes I'd keep going. Jimmy is somewhere down south expecting to go soon. Lucille Johnson, one of my roommates, & I hope to hear La Boheme at the Metropolitan or, as second choice, Tristram & Isolde. Dear Mrs. Fox -- Helen has told me so much about your garden that I'm anxious to get to where we are going and let her start digging!
