March 7, 1944 Dear Mother, Your letter number 44 came today, together with one from Mary and one from Marg. Yesterday I got one from Marguerite in Roseville. I was surprised. Yes, I'm afraid I have gained back some weight. At any rate, the uniform is decidedly on the snug side. I rather think it will be easy to lose once I get to working, though. I hope Gretchen won't have a lot of trouble and expense with the place. Things like the well are discouraging. Do you like the place? Yes, I think it would be better for my friends to wait till I can ask for something and then I'd love to get things. I already knew how the basketball race came out, as I was talking to Major Anderson at lunch yesterday, and he had heard. We are back in the quarters we occupied when we first came. They seem like real luxury now, although I remember we thought them quite rough at that time. I'm rooming with Jeannette Aronson, Johnnie and Lucy are across the hall and Tommie and a friend of hers, Mary
