Saving...
March 10, 1944 Dear Mother, No letter, but maybe one will come today. I must tell you what a good time I had yesterday. One of the Red Cross girls from another group and I went to New York for dinner and a play. We ate at Sardi's right in the theater district. I had a very good Alexander, crabmeat au gratin and biscuit tortoni. All were excellent, but the best part was the atmosphere, cosy and very theatrical. There was one sergeant apparently back on leave, who fascinated us by the ease with which he served the French fries and salad and the way in which everyone who came in seemed to know him. After dinner we had some time to spend so went to the Astor cocktail lounge and had slim, golden glasses of Benedictine. It was swell -- even better than I remembered its being. Then we went to see Elisabeth Bergner in The Two Mrs. Carrolls. It was good, although I think I prefer Katharine Cornell. It was sort of a mystery play
