April 5, 1944 Dear Mother, Your forty-eighth letter, the one with the reference to the Movie Snap you got, came a few days ago. The other Red Cross girl in the picture should have been Joyce Gale, the social worker and head of our unit. Was she small and dark? I laughed at your remarks. Could you be prejudiced? I'm glad the crocheting is about done. I really felt guilty about not having any sent to you, although maybe I couldn't have found any. If you keep on cutting down on lunch expenses you may reach the point where you can just sit in the bank vault and think up a lunch. We get excellent food and plenty of it. I miss milk, so drink a lot of coffee or tea with milk in it. Also miss fresh fruit. When I requested candy, did I say that any old kind would do? Peanut brittle from the dime
